Selecting Camera Models

Cam2Com works with many different camera models. The cameras are very different, so does the work with them.

It is possible to connect one Canon CD camera, several Olympus "Rye" cameras and one Olympus "Wheat" camera and use all of them (i.e. take pictures, etc.) at the same time.

Canon Cameras

CD SDK Cameras

Just connect your supported camera to the computer and start Cam2Com. You do not need to select the Canon camera models.

When Cam2Com starts, if only one Canon CD camera is connected to the computer, Cam2Com just uses it, no special action is needed. If more than one Canon CD camera is connected, you have to select one to work with, because only one such camera can be controlled at one time. In this case Cam2Com opens camera selection dialog, in which it displays list of the connected Canon CD cameras. Select one and click OK.

Later, if you want to use another connected camera, you can do it in the "Tools | Select Camera Models..." dialog. Go to the "Canon CD" tab and select the desired camera from the list. The previously used camera is marked "Disconnected" (even if it is still connected to the computer) and a new window for the selected camera is opened (or mark "Disconnected" is removed from the camera window if it was already open).

Olympus Cameras

Before starting working with a camera, you need to tell Cam2Com all of the models of Olympus cameras you are planning to use. To do it select "Tools | Select Camera Models..." The Camera Model selection dialog will be shown.

There are two classes of cameras: ones that use Olympus SDK v. 2.0 or "Wheat" and ones that use Olympus SDK v. 3.x or "Rye".

"Rye" SDK Cameras

Select 'Olympus "Rye" SDK' tab in the "Select Camera Models" dialog.

The "Rye" camera types are listed in the dialog. Scroll up and down the list and select all of the camera models you need. Cam2Com can work with multiple "Rye" cameras at the same time.

Even if you select a "Rye" camera model, you do not have to keep it connected to the computer all the time in order to work with the other models.

"Wheat" SDK Cameras

Select 'Olympus "Wheat" SDK' tab in the "Select Camera Models" dialog.

You only need to check a box above that camera list to indicate to Cam2Com that you are going to use some "Wheat" camera.

Do not check this box without need: if the box is checked, Cam2Com tries to connect to the "Wheat" camera every time it starts, which takes considerable amount of time. Cam2Com can work with only one "Wheat" camera at one time.

"Select Camera Models" dialog

Tab 'Olympus "Rye" SDK'

Select all cameras you are planning to work with Lists all known camera models that can work with Olympus SDK 3.x. Multiple cameras can be selected from this list.

Advanced Click to open dialog for automatic detection of cameras not included by default in the above list. The camera still must be supported by the Olympus "Rye" SDK.

NOTE: If OlymRye.sys driver is installed (this is default) Cam2Com writes camera information for that driver into the computer Registry every time a new "Rye" camera is selected. This only can be done in the an administrator account. OlymRye.sys is needed to run Cam2Com from a standard user account. So, in order to write the data into the Registry, you have somehow to log on as administrator. This is done differently on different Operating Systems:

On Windows 2000 you have to log out, log on as an administrator, run OlymRye.sys Configuration (it is found in the Start Menu  (Sabsik->Cam2Com->OlymRye.sys Configuration) to update the Registry, then log out and log on back to your standard user account. Cam2Com will prompt you to do it.

On Windows XP Cam2Com asks you to enter the administrator's name and password right after selecting the cameras. There is no need to log out and log on twice. You can do it right there and get over it, or use the old Windows 2000 method.

On Windows Vista Cam2Com uses new UAC feature of Vista and you enter the administrator’s name and password when the Operating System prompts you for that. Ther is no need to log out and log on twice. Of course, the old Windows 2000 method also works.

Tab 'Olympus "Wheat" SDK'

Check if you wish to use any camera in the list below Lists all known camera models that can work with Olympus SDK 2.0. All cameras are selected together, but only one of them can be connected to the computer and used with Cam2Com at a time.

NOTE: Do not check this box without need: if the box is checked, Cam2Com tries to connect to the "Wheat" camera every time it starts, which takes considerable amount of time. Cam2Com can work with only one "Wheat" camera at one time.

Tab 'Canon CD SDK'

If there are several Canon CD SDK cameras connected to the computer, you can select the one you wish to work with. Cam2Com can work only with one Canon CD camera at a time.
