Preparing Camera to Work with PC

When working with the camera, make sure it is turned on, has power, any necessary media is inserted, and the media door, battery compartment door, etc. are closed.

Canon CD SDK cameras

Some Canon cameras must be switched into playback pictures mode before Cam2Com can work with them.

Olympus "Wheat" cameras

For camera models C-2100UZ, C-3000Z, C-3030Z, D-360L, D-460Z, D-490Z, C-211Z, nothing special needs to be done. Just connect them to the computer and run Cam2Com. Then select the camera model for the "Wheat" type of the camera.

NOTE: It is not possible to use controls on the camera while it is connected to the computer.

Olympus "Rye" cameras

These cameras first must be set to PC Mode before connecting to the computer.

NOTE: It is not possible to use controls on the camera while it is connected to the computer.

First of all, turn the camera on but do not connect it to the computer. After that your actions will depend on the type of the camera you are using. Usually, there is no difference in which mode on the camera to select, as setting dial to "A/S/M" or equivalent works just fine.

Select your camera model for the details on switching the camera into PC mode:

When the camera is in the PC mode, connect it to the computer, run Cam2Com, and select the camera model for the "Rye" type of camera.

NOTE: When camera in PC mode is disconnected from the computer, it can be used exactly the same way as when not in PC mode. Basically, there is no need to switch it back, ever. However, when in PC mode, it is not possible to download pictures from the camera the normal way: when the camera is connected to the computer, the drive icon, which represents the camera, is present, but any attempt to access it fails with the error "Drive not ready" or similar. Cam2Com provides an easy way for downloading pictures from the camera, so this limitation is not really important.

To restore normal operation of the camera, switch it back to the normal mode using steps similar to the above.
